Lincoln Wastewater Treatment Plant

Come check out the Lincoln Wastewater Treatment Plant, where you’ll be able to explore the watery, marshy, and grassy sites found here, along with possible duck sightings.

Point Reyes for Fall Vagrants

Come out for an entire day of birding at Point Reyes, where there’s always a rare species to see. Every fall is different, so there’s no telling what you’ll see on this day, but this trip in the past has experienced the Broad-winged Hawk, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, White-winged Dove, Least Flycatcher, Yellow-green Vireo, and plenty of warblers. Be prepared for a full day of bird chasing!

Departure: 7 a.m., meet at the Park & Ride off I-80 in West Sacramento

Saturday/Sunday October 5/6, 12/13, & 19/20

Crane Tours at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve 

Bring your camping chair, warm clothes and binoculars for the crane tours at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve in Lodi, CA. Tours meet an hour and a half before sunset at the South Site and end 30 minutes after sunset with the exciting fly-in of the cranes at the North Site. Cranes will be the main attraction of the evening, but keep an eye out for other birds that inhabit the reserve during wintertime.

Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Sunday, October 6

William Pond Park

A fantastic trip for beginners, come see the wide variety of birds that inhabit William Pond Park, including the California Quail, Western Bluebirds, wrens, towhees, herons, egrets, along with other various water birds and arriving winter residents and migrants.

Thursday, October 10

Falcon Crest, El Dorado Hills

Spend your Thursday exploring the south side of Folsom Lake, where you’ll be scouting the oak woodlands and the mouth of Sweetwater Creek to look for eagles, osprey, passerines, woodpeckers, Rock Wrens, and other water birds. This trip may carry on into the early afternoon, so come prepared with water and snacks. There is no bathroom. See link below for specific driving directions.

Hana Gardens Birding Trips

This month, you have two opportunities to take a day off from reality and join birding trips in El Cerrito, CA. On Friday, October 11th, the group will go to Hayward Regional Shoreline in Hayward and on October 25th, they will go to the MLK, Jr. Regional Shoreline Park in Oakland for the birding activities. Both trips will leave from the same parking lot and at the same time.

Departure: 8 a.m., meet at the Contra Costa Civic Theater parking lot

Birds of Prey Photography Workshop

This 3-part photography workshop includes an evening of classroom instruction at Mike’s Camera in Sacramento on Friday night, a morning photo session with birds of prey at West Coast Falconry in Marysville on Saturday, and a gallery showing event on the following Wednesday. The photo session will allow you to experience several different birds of prey in their natural habitat, including eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons. Birding for Families

Bring the whole family out for a hike through Ancil Hoffman Park, where bird enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to explore the wildlife here. The nature walk will be led by a Naturalist as well as special guest guides from the Sacramento Audubon Society. Be sure to bring your binoculars or borrow a pair from us to get the most out of the experience. This is one of the best nature activities for kids you’ll find in Sacramento!
